Bird’s Eye View Painting
I have recently delved into the creation of a new bird's-eye view
painting, an art form that has captivated me since the 1980s, even
before my very first solo exhibition. In my exploration of this theme, I
have come to appreciate the inherent abstraction that defines bird's-
eye drawings. Rather than focusing on intricate details, I prioritize
shape, colour, pattern, and composition to convey the essence of the
subject matter.
What draws me to this style is the freedom it affords me as an artist. By
breaking away from the constraints of literal description, I am able to
interpret the subject matter in my own unique way and unlock its visual
possibilities. In doing so, I can engage with the interplay of shapes and
patterns, allowing them to take center stage as the main visual
elements. This emphasis on form and design adds to the overall
aesthetic appeal of my artwork, creating pieces that are visually striking
and deeply engaging.
Through my bird's-eye view paintings, I extend an invitation to viewers,
urging them to explore and interpret the artwork through their own
lens. The abstract nature of this perspective allows for subjective
interpretation and emotional engagement. As viewers immerse
themselves in the colours, shapes, and patterns of my work, they can
draw upon personal experiences and feelings, finding resonance within
the art.
By evoking the viewpoint of a bird soaring above, my paintings achieve
a sense of abstraction while still maintaining a subtle connection to
recognizable elements. This balance enables me to engage the viewer's
imagination, inviting them to participate in the creative process by
evoking their own emotions and thoughts. The bird's-eye view
perspective breathes life into my artwork, instilling it with a captivating
blend of abstraction and connection.
In conclusion, my exploration of bird's-eye view paintings allows me to
embrace abstraction and convey the essence of a subject through
shape, colour, pattern, and composition. By inviting viewers to interpret
the artwork in their own way, I strive to evoke personal experiences and
emotions. The unique perspective of the bird's-eye view adds depth to
the abstraction, forging a subtle link between the recognizable and the
imaginative, and fostering a captivating experience for those who
engage with my art.
