Drawing for Brain Health A 10-Week Extension of Stillness and Strokes Look. Notice. Remember. Draw. Discover. Drawing is more than making a picture. When we draw, we look carefully. We notice relationships, remember what we have seen, coordinate the eyes and hands, make decisions, solve small problems and discover different ways of seeing. Drawing for Brain Health is a gentle 10-week drawing journey designed for older adults. It grows naturally from Stillness & Strokes, combining mindful attention with observation, visual memory, spatial awareness, pattern recognition, creative thinking and flexible ways of seeing. There are no examinations, no grades and no expectation of artistic ability. Each week introduces a simple drawing experience—sometimes quiet and meditative, sometimes playful and exploratory. Participants may draw from observation, from memory, through patterns, negative space, continuous lines, imagination and shared mark-making. The emphasis is not on producing a perfect picture. It is on being present with the process of seeing, thinking and making. We draw slowly. We look again. We remember. We change direction. We discover. And perhaps, along the way, we discover that keeping the mind active can also be a joyful and creative experience. The purpose is not to draw perfectly. It is to keep the eyes curious, the hands moving and the mind awake.
